Trip at lata hammer (somewhere during my Delta year)
There are times where we would occasionally organize a bonding trip whereby we will go somewhere with the members and have fun. 3 years ago, we all went to Lata Hammer Waterfall for our bonding trip. It was fun until an incident occur...
I think that day we arrive before noon around 10/11 am. The weather was great. Not too sunny to be honest. We gathered at the main entrance and started to make our way to the waterfall. It took us around 1 hour to reach the waterfall. After we reached the campsite, our advisor gave us a short briefing, especially on the safety regulations. There is a rumor saying there is a whirlpool near the deep end of the waterfall. So he warns us not to do any stupid shit. For example, playing near/at the deep end.
We have some fun time at the water, set up the BBQ, eat some food and we all gave a surprise to a friend of ours as it was her birthday. Everything was going great. Some are having fun, some are relaxing and some are eating. Suddenly, we heard a cry for help coming from the waterfall area.
Most of us went down to investigate as we are nearby and we saw 3 women were at the verge drowning. One of their head was barely on the surface of the water. It was intense. Time was running out. 3 of my friends went into the water to attempt to rescue them. At the same time, another friend of mine who is the club President was super worried when he saw 3 of them going into the water. He quickly tells the rest not to act on their own as it was too dangerous. The water was super cool and it might cause the muscle to cramp at any time.
While the rescue mission was still ongoing, one of my friends rushes down from the campsite with a float after she saw the incident that was taking place. She quickly throws the float towards the victim when she reaches the waterfall area. 1 of them manages to reach ashore safely after being rescued by my friend while the other 2 were rescue using the float we threw.
After the incident, everyone went silence for a short while and resumed with their activities. We pack our stuff, wash up and make our way back to the entrance. It was a rather intense and unforgettable memory as we are basically witnessing something that does not often happen right in front of our very own eyes. That was some crazy moments. Thankfully everything went well and no one was injured.
